The Saab 17 was also used by the Ethiopia, Finland and Austria. In Ethiopia, it served until 1968. During the last year of the second world war, a Danish brigade was trained on the Saab 17, but when the war ended these planes weren’t of interest to Denmark. Including two prototypes, 325 aircraft were built.

When ASJA was merged with Saab, the airplane was named Saab 17. The plane was now also intended as a dive bomber. As the European continent was thrown into war, the lack of engines forced three different versions of the Saab 17 to be developed; the 17A with Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp, the 17B with Bristol Mercury XXIV and the 17C with Piaggio P. Boeing B-17 'Felix' United States of America / Sweden, 1944 - At the end of World War II a number of U.S. Air Force B-17's made emergency landings in neutral Sweden after being damaged by German flak above Berlin. Seven of these bombers were converted by SAAB for civilian use. The Saab B 17 is a light bomber/dive bomber and reconnaissance plane with two seats, a single engine and a single tail, whose design bears a close resemblance with the Mitsubishi Ki-30 “Ann”, the Mitsubishi Ki-15, the Vought OS2U, and the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver, especially with the elongated shape of the main airframe and equally elongated windscreen of the cabin (as well as the same cockpit), which occupies most of the superior area of the airframe and it is fully incorporated in the fuselage. Två B-17 Felix såldes vidare i december 1945 till Det Danske Luftfartselskab (DDL) i Danmark. Five Saab 17s are known to be in existence today, three of which are on public display. The Swedish Air Force Museum in Linköping has two aircraft in their collection, a S 17BL '5', serial 17005 which is on static display in the museum, and a B 17A '7', serial 17239, the latter being kept in airworthy condition and which is periodically flown.
